  • ATW: Standing etiquette?

When is it okay to stand and cheer for your team at Memorial?

I ask this because I almost got in a fight on Saturday with the guy behind me.

All the time. Anyone who complains should be punched in the face. Its GD football.

Last year, I was asked by the guy in front of me, "Are you going to be yelling like that all game?"

Where do you all sit? I sit right behind the players families on the north 30 yrd line and have never had anyone say anything to me.

Family Zone. Most of those people don't care if you stand. They are pretty much making sure their rugrats aren't eating popcorn off the stadium floor or running to the concessions to get more food. Although I feel bad cursing while I stand there.

tell the person who complains to shut up and become a real fan.

I sit in Section 5 on the west side. This 5'10" 300+lb guy started going off on me, probably about 60 yrs old. I was not standing the whole time. I stand up on 3rd downs on defense and anytime our offense has a big play (a lot of times during the big play just out of instinct). That's why he got mad. His fat-ass can't get up and down so he goes off on me.

I went off on him right back (as did my father sitting next to me). It was pretty embarassing. I then turned around and never looked back the rest of the game. All of the people in front of me were on my side. I actually tried to be mature about it and not stand too much, but it almost ruined a glorious day.

If he would have asked me quietly and nicely, I probably would have been very considerate. Since he was an a-hole, I wasn't going to let it slide. The guy should be sitting in the disabled seats, if he can't stand up IMO.

Now, we get to sit by this guy for the rest of the season. Awesome.

I have never had any problems in Section 7. Most people there are standing anyway.

I have never been gracious to people at sporting events. When I was 12 years old at a local juco basketball game there was about 1:10 left, and we were up 3 and the other team had the ball. I was standing and yelling along with about 70% of the rest of the crowd. Some old guy behind me tugged on my shirt and told me to sit down. I told him no. My dad oversaw me and this old guy arguing about me standing during the game. My dad asked the old man how many games he went to this year. The old guy said "All of them buster!" My dad said "Well you ought to be used to it then, kiss my ass!"

That is always the appropriate response in my book: "Kiss my ass!" I don't know how many times I have been told to sit down during my life at sporting events. Never at a KU one though. I've gotten some looks though.

Seriously, if you are going to sit at a game, why in the hell don't you just stay home and watch it on TV. To me that is one of the main reasons you go to a game. :killme

Damn it, I should have used that. I just yelled right back in his face "Have you ever been to a f-ing football game?" I then said, "Just because you can't get up and down doesn't mean I have to stay seated".

                          Re: ATW: Standing etiquette?

I'm usually in the student section, but I occasionally moonlight in Section 9 (where my family usually gets tickets). Never had an issue with standing outside of the student section.

Got yelled at by a UT fan my freshman year for standing in front of her. I turned around and told her to stop being such a lazy bitch. She left.

                          Man that felt good.

                            Stadiums are LOUD

didn't know we needed a freaking PA announcement for people to know that

pretty soon people will ask them to turn down the intro music and stopped ringing the bell

Our seats this year allow my brother and I to stand the entire game. We're at the very top of sec 5, but it's worth it.
