  • Apathy Level - KU Football?

    SCALE:
5 - Still pumped can't wait for Saturday
4 - Excited about KU football, but a few creeping feelings of doubt from last weeks debacle.
3 - WTF Turner? Is it Saturday yet though?
2 - Wake me up when we have a new coach.
1 - Total Johnny No Care. When is basketball season?

First, I have been a 5 on this scale for every Kansas football game for the past decade. I started this season as a 4 and I have dropped to about a 3. I am an 0-4 non-con season from falling to a 2.

I'm at a shaky 3 right now, could fall to a 2 real quick if this weekend's game goes to shit.

I will be the optimist here. The coaching staff and players overlooked NDSU and has been preparing for GT for the past several weeks. We come out with an actual game plan and look pretty decent against the yellow coats.

I think you're confusing apathy with optimism.

I'm completely interested in KU football, but I'm not optimistic that this will be a good season.

I am a 3 but am about two extremely rotten games from a 2. I just can't get excited about this staff. I am not excited to give him time to sort things out. I know it is only one game, but I haven't seen anything that says he can point us in the right direction except Husker fans who jump to his defense.

5 -- Still pumped...it means a trip to Lawrence for me and college football is college football...I'd rather be winning, but I'm excited for the game...it's also a 3 day week for me

I'm about a 2.75. I was optimistic heading into the year, but completely disheartened after Saturday's abomination.

The stupid penalties, wasted timeouts, and simply lack of discipline and polish was painful to watch.

Another part of it is that I just graduated and shelled out the $ for real season tickets this year... that makes it sting even worse.

I'm a solid 3. It's not so much that we lost, it's HOW we lost. That said, after getting my son's Saturday soccer schedule yesterday, the first thing I did was compare it to the KU schedule to make sure there weren't any conflicts. I guess that means I am still optimistic that we can salvage something out of the season and I still plan on watching every game.

Re: Apathy Level - KU Football?

I need more data. Saturday was awful. Truly awful. There is no defending that game. With the recruiting that went on the last few years this is a team that minimum should win 5 games this year and with good coaching/gameplanning/player buy-in should have a possibility of greater win totals. That game makes me wonder if 0 or 1 wins is our total for the year. Seriously, who else in the conference could we beat if the NDSU game is any indication?

I've been with KU football all my life and I always will be. This amounts to a lot of heart and scar tissue and precious little accomplishment. I've been to two bowl games and seen two bowl victories so there is some good. That said, I'm not really happy with Turnerover's approach so far. Maybe the fatman's exit was so bad we really did need cookies and icecream since last season. The ice cream party is over. Shove some boots up asses, do something oldschool football, and get these jokers performing closer to their max.

Right now I'm just hoping my worst thoughts are overreactions and we'll see improvement soon. I'm also REALLY wrestling with spread vs. "traditional" football. In one respect the spread allows teams like KU and MU to be more competitive than they should be given recent trends for the programs. But I think they have a top end that is limiting. Is a switch away from this a winning move? I don't know, there's something to be said for being good enough to kick the asses of teams like NDSU and being in the top half of the conference. But if that is all it would ever be an alternative path that might win the conference or more might be fun too. I know this regarding the spread, the roster is full of players that know nothing else so a more moderate switch away from the spread might be in order to keep the fans happy and interested and for Turnerover to keep his job........

Shooter, according to TOS, we have no talent so it is expected. I agree with your assessment though. I fail to buy into that mindset and think that we have some talent on the team. I also don't support throwing the entire team under the bus to feel better about Turner Gill. It seems like a disaster. We should have won against NDSU, and it should have been somewhat impressive. It was not.

                      I'm holding at a 3.

I'll probably stick with the team throughout the season. I did sit through the Texas Tech Homecoming game my freshman year.

Well that sounds like you are between a 4 and a 3.

Wait until you just don't care anymore....than you will be apathetic.

I've always cared. I cared during the Mason years, the Gameball years, the Mangino years, and now I care during Gill's first year. I will never find myself apathetic regarding KU football, only disappointed and disheartened at times. But I will continue to scream until I lose my voice (I had no voice by halftime of the NDSU game). And I will always hope for the best for our Jayhawks.
