Re: holy crap, people.
I always stay away from news/boards after terrible losses. This honestly reminded me of the SMU loss. Of course that was on the road. And I've pretty well managed to block the gameball regime from memory but it seems like that was late in his tenure with all of his own players so that was on him. If Turnerover can actually improve on recruiting then maybe he has some upside. Right now I just watched a game where I can't help but think Mangino would have had this team in a mindset to blow away THAT opponent. Is Mangino staying the answer? No. Something went wrong last year and it had to stop but the Mr. Rogers-esque approach we now have just doesn't seem to be the way to go.
I hope this new coach learned something Saturday. Maybe there's a way to right this ship and show some improvement during the season. Some say "star" ratings don't matter but there is strong correlation between those ratings and performance on the field and with the recruiting MM had over the last 4 years I expect FAR more than what I've seen in game 1.
If Biere holds on to those two fumbles and we manage a 10-6 or 13=6 win are we in as bad of shape as we are now. W's are important but we still played poorly.
That said, I'm not holding my breath. That game was an abortion. Home game, all summer to prepare, amped up crowd, etc., etc., and the team steps on their dicks.
One last thing, we can talk about RB's, QB's, this and that but the one group that really sucked was the o-line.....

Re: holy crap, people.
We can talk about poor position play all we want, but the real culprits of disaster was the ill prepared coaching staff.
We had 10 men on the field for punt returns 3 times. THREE. Coaches were running around looking for players to get on the unit. Explain this one to me? The 11 players on the punt return team don't KNOW they are on punt return?
Using all timeouts before 8 minute mark in the 4th quarter.
People when you take a complete flier and reach on a completely unproven and untested head coach this is what you get. How there are not more people with pitchforks and torches headed to Lew Perkins house is a testament to how apathetic our fanbase is. I am ready to burn his fucking house down and throw his shit on the lawn and tell his fat donkey ass to move back east.

Re: holy crap, people.
Wave, I wasn't a fan of the hire and simply refuse to do much defense after that turd on Saturday but name me a coach that wasn't unproven at some point. KU is simply not in a situation with football to select a virtual sure thing like they did with Self. Shoot, at one point we had to take an unknown Elroy Williams. Mangino was unproven when he took over. Retreads sometimes work but I figure there's a reason they were once treaded so I certainly don't want to bet the farm that a retread like Tubberville will work out in TT.
Hopefully this is an expected bump with a transition away from the spread but I think a more tempered switch away from the spread could be in order to avoid embarrassing losses. Hopefully this staff is reflecting on their actions. The touchy feely crap since they were hired was expected. Now that the honeymoon is over they can figure out who will pay the rent and get some shit done around the place. The gloves should be off.......

Re: holy crap, people.
It's just depressing. Not only does the loss set us back in a significant way and kill all of the optimism, but it also takes away some of the excitement for the college football season in general (at least for me). It's not as bad as when we lose in the NCAA tourney and I have to step away for a day or two, but it has definitely put a damper on my outlook on the sport. Hopefully a good game tonight will change that.
