  • The One and Done Rule

Always fun for discussion. What format should playing in college take?

Should it stay as it is?
    Require more years in college?
Back to allowing players to go straight to the league out of High School?

But that just makes too much sense, so we should kiss that option goodbye. Maybe only force them to stay 2 years instead of 3 like baseball.

Would you let the NBA draft open to all like baseball? You can have an agent/advisor, get drafted, etc. and not sign. I don't see the real need for that due to the NBA picks having predetermined salaries. The player doesn't have a need for real bargaining chips, unless they were getting a Xavier type deal. He could say, I'm going back to school unless ya'll pony up 750k.

Forcing certain players to college for a year, which ends up being a semester, makes a joke out of universities, opens up the door for the unsavory characters, and ultimately can hurt the athlete. My cousin is dumb as shit and forcing him to go to college before working construction, what he's good at, is detrimental to all involved.

David Stern may try to get the rule bumped to 2 years and then it depends on what the Union gets in return.
I'm just guessing that any change isn't going to happen. The rule works pretty well for the NBA.
