  • Darnell Dodson leaving UK

Just came across this from Matt Jones: http://twitter.com/KySportsRadio/status/20100578652

Looks like he's still eligible if he wants to return, but I guess he decided to leave the program.

Maybe Cal found someone better in the rec league to replace him

While I would've liked to have Dodson on the team this year, the positive side for UK is that this gives us another scholarship for what is shaping up to be an absolute monumental recruiting class in '11.

I suppose no one expressed it formally, but 'Why is Dodson leaving?'.

Ahh, I see. It's still unclear at the moment. Some say grades, but Cal himself said he is academically eligible and will be welcomed back if he wants to earn his spot. This has been rumored and speculated upon all summer long, even dating back to the end of last season. I've read reports stating that he was caught puffing the magic dragon, but again, it's all just speculation at this point.

                  Re: Darnell Dodson leaving UK

                  Per the AP:

LEXINGTON, Ky. -- Kentucky coach John Calipari says junior guard Darnell Dodson will not play for the Wildcats this season.

Calipari posted on his Facebook page Sunday night that while Dodson is academically eligible, he won't be with the team when it travels to Canada for a series of exhibition games later this month. Calipari gave no reason behind the decision.

Dodson averaged 6.0 points as a sophomore last season, leading Kentucky with 50 3-pointers.

Calipari says Dodson could return to the team "if he meets our standards."

                    Translation

"If he meets our standards" = "if he magically grows a reliable jump shot over the summer and fall"
