But the preseason is too long too. I think 16 is a perfect number of games, but I'd rather have 18 games that matter than the 4 bullshit preseason games we get saddled with every year.

Watching the preseason and seeing a number of players, including our own Kerry Meier, go down with season-ending injuries, I'd say that 4 games might be too many when they don't even count.

I'm not sure that an 18 game season necessarily gives us anything more than we're getting already, but at least they'd be meaningful games, instead of brutal to watch, utterly unessential beauty contests we're saddled with at the moment. If you're worried about not having enough information to cut down to a 53-man roster, maybe the league could change that rule and allow the regular season to start with 60 guys, or at the very least allow for expansion of the practice squad.

The pre-season is just a money grab. So is this 18 game idea. I don't think the problem ever was the 53-man roster.
