  • KU vs. Emporia State

Good W for the Jayhawks. Here's the box score.

Thomas Robinson pulled off a double double last night, including 12 pts, 10 reb (6 offensive) and 4 blks in 23 minutes. He only committed one personal foul cleaning all that glass, which is just as impressive.

How about Tyshawn's line coming off the bench?
10 pts, 6 ast, 3 reb, 2 stl in 20 minutes last night

It looks like we destroyed them on the boards 40 - 25, including 11 - 5 on offensive boards. That's six extra possessions.

ONE HUGE NEW ADDITION TO KU THIS YEAR:

Our crimson girls have full out 80's porn hair. One has a HUGE blond farrah fawcett doo. Awesome.

I enjoyed going to the game last night. We looked good. Morningstar (who I have been his biggest supporter) has lost some athletic ability. A few of his layup attempts you couldn't slide a credit card under his vertical. Not sure whats up there.

We need to shoot better. Reed needs to be a gunner. Also, I am not sure why CJ Henry left. Kid would be a huge asset.

        1. It's the lack of an undershirt. He needs to bring it back

        2. It might have something to do with the millions of dollars he's getting as a lotto pick.

          Re: KU vs. Emporia State

TRob looked good. Our starting lineup was unusual. Reed, Morningstar, Releford, Mk. Morris and Robinson. Self stuck with them for about 6 minutes. Mc. Morris played well in the first half after picking up two fouls. Releford played well at times, but was inconsistent.

Robinson was very active on the boards and on defense. It was real good to see. Markief had some moves that were nearly impossible to guard. We have really good athleticism on the court with certain lineups. We have work to do, and really need to get better shooting the 3 pointer (3-12 last night). I hope Selby can get eligible and can hit that shot. EJ and TT have some talent and still need some refining.

We dominated because we had the height advantage. I'm not sure where Mario Little is going to fit in. He's not a 4 at all in my opinion and he may not have the skill set to play a 3 either. He looked a little out of sorts handling the ball on that fast break. I don't know if he's going to be a factor at all this season except for spot minutes. I also have no idea why Withey played. He looked slow and injured.

The Positives: Releford and Robinson looked good.
The Negatives: It was Emporia State. Their tallest player was 6-7. So any serious evaluation of this team will have to wait until we play some bigger guys. The 40-25 rebounding average was a product of that.

            CJ. Not Xavier.

I think CJ could impact this team with his shooting ability versus being lead member of his brothers posse.

Tyshawn and Releford will fill in spots we thought might hurt us. Tyshawn has added range to his jumpshot and Releford showed he can hit the 3 with an open look (with all the people who can drive on this team and the attention McMorris brings, he'll have plenty).

Robinson is a beast on boards, blocks, and has great offensive moves. However, he still has no touch when it comes to layups. He slams the ball against the backboard and usually not in the right place. He had a nice jumper though.

Releford did hit the open 3 once, but Kenny Gregory hit a few open 3s in his day too. If he does it consistently then we'll know he's a threat.

                      Re: KU vs. Emporia State

If Brady is still playing meaningful minutes when conference play rolls around we are in trouble.

He has literally gotten worse every year since 08-09.
Reed and Releford do basically the same things Brady does....only better.

I'll stick with the preseason thought that the rotation among "smalls" will be Selby, Taylor, Johnson, Reed and Releford this year. All 4 bigs will play...probably Withey the odd man out unless there is foul problems and/or facing a true 7-footer.

On another note...Little will not play much unless we are in dire straights when we pare it down to the conference rotation. I like the kid...he plays hard, knows what he is doing and has skill. He just doesn't have a position. Not big enough to play the 4, not quick enough to play the 3.
