  • Will Muschamp

Rumors are beginning on Mack Brown retiring and Will stepping up from his coach-in-waiting status. I seriously doubt Mack would retire yet and still has 5+ years of productive coaching in him.

Last year Tennessee went after Muschamp. This year, it looks like his alma mater will be open with how Richt has started at Georgia. LSU is looking for any excuse to get rid of the Hat and would probably make a run for Muschamp.

He's going to be 40 next year. Why would you want to take any other job than the one you are waiting for? Even if it is Georgia or LSU, Texas has to be the best college job in the country right now based on resources, location, tradition, and fan base. Why would you go somewhere else even if you have to wait until 2016 for that job?

Funny that these rumors start after he lost the OU game. He's got a few more years in him.

I'm with the OP. He's making head coach $$ with much less responsibility. He's in a perfect situation right now IMO.

Of course, a lot of coaches have egos the size of Saturn and want to prove themselves, so what do I know.

Coaches are a different breed. I could see him jumping to Georgia for $2 million/year. He might also get a bump in salary to $1.5 million or more if he stays as DC. I think he is around $950K/year currently with Mack making $5 million/year.
