I am all for giving Gill some time. However his head will be on the chopping block next season unless visible improvement is mad this year. If the current trend continues, he's here 2 years. If he shows some good signs of future success he could be here a long time.

But at this point I have no confidence. They smoked us. We shall see what he can do to add speed. I'm sure Mangino didn't intentionally not recruit speed. His exit was hasty and he didn't really have time to sabotage the next coach by not recruiting.

There isn't much proof either way that Gill can out recruit Mangino or that Gill has developed a bunch of 3 star recruits into guys that can win 7; 8, or 9 wins. I'll wait it out. But at this point, the burden is on Gill to prove he can coach at this level. I expect major steps in the right direction next year or Gill should be looking for another job. He's placed in an terribly difficult position since the league will give him no respite from the big dogs.

I don't want to be a downer, but Mangino never had outstandingh team speed, but he had a track record from 2005 - 2008 of being able to compete with such talent.

Patterson, Beshears, and Mcdougald have speed. We have a freshman RB, QB, no linebackers because of injury, poor lines on both sides of the ball, and a poor secondary. Mangino lived with a crappy secondary all his career here except for a couple of seasons. If Gill can improve the lines, get some passable guys at DB, he should be able to compete. I await next year. This year is over and has been for a few weeks. Go recruit Turner, just don't get blown out like this so bad that no one wants to come here.

The "dont get blown out" I think is more important than a lot of others issues right now. With the "tier system" that is implanted in every Texans head, what guy wants to go to a school that got BLOWN OUT by Baylor?

I don't think you can judge a coach until he gets his own players in there. There were plenty of "fire Self" and "fire Mangino" people around in those coaches' first seasons. We'll have to wait this out and give him a chance. I was one of the "fire Mangino" people, early on, btw.
