  • Favorite Mangino Era Player (offense and defense)

I know right off the bat, you may think, duh, Todd Reesing

but I'd wager that many have other favorites out there

Offense-->Derek Fine, that guy was about as reliable as the come and I loved his attitude

Defense-->Stuckey, class act...oh and he completely owned CD in 2008 Border War

I had an incredibly tough time not putting Jon as my favorite offensive player...he's right up there...and what he did to Nebraska in 05 is something I'll never forget

Offense - Todd is #1, Kerry and Cornish are right on his heels.

Defense - James McClinton was such a stud and a super good dude. He was as disruptive as anyone in the country when healthy. And Talib deserves mention just for "I guess they gotta say we played somebody now" alone.

Offense - Meier, great player, great teammate, great person. Had the right attitude.

      Honorable Mention: Cornish

Defense - Stuckey, dude was just a stud.

      Honorable Mention: Joe Mort

Jacques Crawford hands down. His 2000 yard season was unforgettable.

Offense: Either Cornish or Opurum. I grew up cheering for Air Force, so I'm a sucker for a good running game, and those two were awesome to watch in a Jayhawk uniform.

Defense: Max Onyegbule. Only got one season, but he was fun to watch. His Pick 6 against Duke was one of my favorite moments of last season.

BONUS SPECIAL TEAMS ANSWER: Brandstetter. Watching him spear Maclin was awesome.

              Excluding Todd and Kerry:

Offense: Jon Cornish - He was awesome, not just because he sometimes post here. The Nebraska game was awesome. He was awesome in the Ft. Worth Bowl. The K-State game was awesome. I remember watching him plow the ref over. It is burned into my mind.
Honorable Mention: Dez Briscoe - He was freaky good even as a freshman.

Defense: Darrell Stuckey - He sealed his fate as possibly my all time favorite defensive guy with me when he ran down that La Tech guy a few yards from the goal and then hit the running back for a loss on the next play. He did the same thing last year against USM. The game he had against Missouri in 2008 was awesome.

Honorable Mention: James McClinton - The dude never stopped going. He was probably one of the hardest playing Jayhawks in the last 10 years.

Reesing. If I was a college player, I would have played exactly like him. Cocky, same size and even in the back yard, I would always scramble and look to make big plays down the field. The closest I got was HS 7 on 7, but It was like watching myself out there.

Stuckey on D. His family has been family friends and neighbors for a few years. Great guy and a hell of player. I'm thinkinging borderline Pro-Bowler.

                        Offense--Todd

Defense--this is a toughy. Talib was so much fun to watch, and Toomey was all heart. I loved to watch the DL we had in '04-'05 rush the QB, too, and our LB's were top notch. Kevin Kane gets a big mention because he wasn't the most athletic guy on the field--probably ever--but he knew where he was supposed to be and played really smart football.

                            Offense -
                            Whittemore. The guy was nails.
Meier - I loved his team first attitude, not only the switch he made, but you never saw him get on another teammate ala Chase Daniel.

                            Defense -
The Kane, Reid, Floodman LB core. Those 3 guys were never the fastest or most gifted but they knew their assignments and never got burned. Watching that defense becoming one of the top D's in the country was awesome.
James Holt - Loved seeing him come off the edge his Sr year.
Charles Gordon - Not sure if he should be put on offense or defense but I loved watching Gordon play football.

                            Hon. Mention
                            Marcus Henry
John Randle, if only for that run against K-State
