  • SLAM Magazine's Big 12 preview:

A little light on insight, but sure to be one of many to pick KSU to run away with the league title.

    1. Kansas State
    2. Kansas
    3. Baylor
    4. Missouri
    5. Texas A&M
    6. Texas
    7. Oklahoma State
    8. Colorado
    9. Texas Tech
    10. Nebraska
    11. Iowa State
    12. Oklahoma

Colorado at 8 is a head scratcher when 3 of the 4 top teams are in the North.

Are we not to the point where KU should just be automatically penciled in at No. 1 every year until someone actually dethrones us?

I kind of like having something to argue about in the preseason. KSU isn't going to be able to replace Clemente too easily.

KSU is definitely back. After all they've beat us what? 8 times in the last 26 years?

No brown-nosing here, but KU should be at the top until proven otherwise*.

            *disclaimer - I'm a KSU guy...

Re: SLAM Magazine's Big 12 preview:

I honestly don't see how anyone could objectively look at the two situations and say that K-State is clearly better than KU. Also, the assertion that KU would need Selby to even challenge for the title is laughable. KU dominates this league. Even in the last few "down years."

I agree. Let the K-Staters spend the next few months trash-talking us and getting their hopes up. It will be all the more satisfying for us in the end.

I'm fine with you arguing that you think KU will have a better team than KSU this year. I honestly don't see how anyone could objectively look at the two situations and say that KU is clearly better than K-State, but whatever, we're fans, these disagreements happen on a regular basis when the teams appear to be evenly matched. However, the statement of "because KU has won all of these B12 titles in the past means that they're almost automatically slated to win another championship" is a bad argument, and you and I both know it. Anything can happen. I think you'll find that a large number of analysts not biased towards either of our teams are saying that this will be the most wide open Big 12 race that the conference has had in a long time.

KU certainly deserves all the credit in the world for the extraordinary run they've had through the conference, but that doesn't mean that KSU fans can't get excited about their chances this year for a conference and/or national title this year either. I do think if we don't find a way to knock you off the throne this year, it may be a long time before we can do it again.

It sells more copies and gets more hits on the site if any other team than KU is picked to win the conference. It's simple salesmanship.

KU has won 41 of the last 43 meetings against KSU.
