  • Chris Davis is really bad at baseball right now

0-fer his last 49 at bats. That's a new record and it doesn't look like it's going to get any better. He's striking out about 50% of the time and just plain sucks at the plate.

The one thing in baseball worse than the Royals bullpen.

And that is the problem with baseball. The O's can't do shit about it with that contract. They are screwed. No way there should be fully guaranteed contracts.

They agreed to the contract, no? They signed a player entering his decline phase knowing full well that he had no other skills besides power. I remember it being panned by analysts from the jump.

They agreed to it because that's how baseball works. Did they go beyond what they should have at the time? Probably so. But, nobody could have anticipated he would be this completely shitty and then they are totally fucked on his contract and will just have to eat it.

I disagree. The Whitesox starting pitching is REALLY BAD. So I would rank it as follows:

              1. Chris Davis is bad at baseball
              2. Whitesox starting pitching
              3. Royals bullpen

Anyone think there is anything worse in baseball?

Oh, Chris Sale sucking balls right now is fun to watch, but he's not bad enough to crack the top three.

Phillies two years ago, worst team in baseball.

Speaking of, is there any hope for the Royals in the future?

It was pretty reasonable to predict that he wouldn't age well. This poorly? Probably not, so I agree with you there. But changing the rules to account for one historical outlier would be pretty knee-jerk, especially considering how much teams are swimming in cash. The Orioles are in the bottom half of team valuations but are still worth $1.3B, according to Forbes. Maybe it won't happen this year, but they could cut him and eat the money at some point before the contract expires.

Acually, yes! The farm is getting re-stocked rather quickly. Just read a detailed article in the Topeka paper sometime in the last few days that went over a lot of our top prospects and what they're looking like. Still looks like we will be a couple years away though.

That's good news! Mondesi and Whitefield look good too.

That’s what happens when you sign a bad contract. It’s as American as the sport it’s related to. You really think that Chris Davis is the bad guy and the poor Orioles are getting exploited here?

This is just about how I felt when Adam Dunn was signed by the Whitesox a few year back. He was the "perfect" DH at the time and he failed miserably. I felt bad for him, because he was a model of consistency with Cincinnati, except for the fact he made a shit ton of money.

Yes I do. So you think it’s ok to sign a contract and then basically not show up for work and still get paid in full? That’s pretty much what he is doing.

Declining in performance =/= willfully not showing up to contractually obligated work, and to suggest otherwise is laughable and indicates you don’t understand basic contract law.
