The structure of the deal is going to be such that his annual salary will never be below a certain percentage of the cap, but estimates are pegging it around $400-$425M for the life of the contract.

Obviously, he deserves to be the highest paid player in the league, so that's good. Excited to have a (likely) decade of Mahomes (of course, anything could happen). Great news.

LOL at thinking that football is returning before we get a vaccine. I wonder how much is guaranteed on new contracts like this around the league if they go a while with no games being played.

Correction - There's no language tying the value to the salary cap. Deal is $450 million over ten years with $140M guaranteed.

ETA: That's a lot of Whataburgers.

This seems almost miraculously good for the Chiefs. $40M/yr is barely even the market value for him today and we've got him at a little less than that for 12 years.

Then again, I personally think NFL revenues will peak before this contract is over, so the growth in cap might not be quite as extreme as we're used to.

Mahomes is using some of his new riches to buy a stake in the Royals.

Patrick Mahomes became a financially secure man earlier this summer, and he isn't wasting much time investing his wealth. The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback has joined the ownership group of Major League Baseball's Kansas City Royals, the team announced.

That has to be good news for Kansas City (and the Chiefs). It keeps him tied a bit to the city.

                            Floppy McFlopperson flops.

Dumb, neither one of those were flops.
