  • What would you do?

This happened to me at lunch today. What would you do?

So, I get invited to lunch today by a vendor of mine. Nice lunch besides the guy being a weirdo. I knew he was a weirdo, and have avoided lunches with him in the past. But, I didn't have anything today so I figured, sure it's a free lunch.

Our server was great. Perfect timing on everything, brought us refills and made sure everything was good multiple times. An all around nice girl and a job well done. Food was very good, and the guy I was with kept commenting how good it was as well.

So, the bill comes and it is $22.91 total. My vendor is paying for it, and I see him write a tip of $2.09 for a total of $25.00

That is a whopping 9% tip. I couldn't believe what I was seeing (but knowing how weird this guy is, I could believe it).

What would you have done in this situation?

You could have offered to cover the tip since he bought lunch. I probably would have handled it that way, along with giving him/her a slight ration of shit.

It really depends on what kind of a relationship you have with the vendor. Many of the vendors that I deal with have enough of a sense of humor that they would understand some good hearted ribbing.

Hell as we all know times are difficult everywhere. Vendors that I deal with are on expense accounts and there might be a corporate mandate that they limit tips to minimal amounts etc.

Ya, I don't know him that well. I thought about that. I just acted normal and when we were walking out, I said my goodbyes to him and told him that I needed to use the restroom. I waited in there for about a minute, and then I went back to the table and luckily the tab book was still there. I then snuck two more dollars cash in there.

Probably won't be going to lunch with him again. Cheapass and a weirdo aren't a good combo in my book.

I would've tried to sneak back to the table and left her a few extra bucks.

            1. Go back in.
            2. Wait till waitress goes to pick up the tab
            3. Rush over, hand her some more money and say "Sorry about my friend, he's kind of a tightwad. By the way, my name is _____."

Karate chop him in the throat, rip his wallet, pull ou $10 for the server, and ask her to marry you.
