  • So, something my Dr missed

Had a small nail fungus issue, Dr prescribed itraconazole

I take verapamil for a heart tachycardia that runs in the family...

So, before I take my first dose tonight....I caught this online

traconazole increases blood levels of certain calcium channel blockers, for example, nisoldipine (Sular) and verapamil (Calan). Such combinations increase the occurrence of congestive heart failure due to itraconazole.

Haven't had a chance to talk to my Dr yet, but this seems to me a pretty serious drug conflict...I have fully disclosed all medicines I'm taking....but he prescribed it anyways.

I googled the two, and they're all over drug interaction charts

I'm actually pretty pissed, as I think I should be

Good catch. If it's a highly reactive drug, you'd figure he'd ask some questions.

First of all congrats on catching it. It means you read the PI. Most don't.

Drs have thousands of drugs/treatments to remember. With layoffs and reduction in drug reps this will become a bigger problem. The only way that these drs ever got information on drug interactions.

Let this be a lesson to everybody...Read your PI. Take some responsibility to what is going into your body. The days of "blindly trusting" doc is gone; Not because doc is untrustworthy or incompetent. There is simply too much for them to know anymore.

      Oh.....and......

      Nail fungus......ewwwww.

It's on my pinky toe...and it's been a total pain to try and get rid of...

but yeah, I run everything through Google Health now too, it checks for drug interactions
