Is there any downside to rooting a phone?

I'd hate to get a brand new phone, (like I said $200 is a LOT for me to pay for a phone) and then root it and fuck something up.

not really...almost all models have "1 click" root method apps now that allow you to root the phone (and unroot it) with the touch of a button...those are zero risk

even flashing roms and modifying your phone is virtually risk free as long as you install rom manager, flash a recovery image, and make a backup

    only 1 way possible

Root it and install Cyanogenmod....check XDA forums if you have any questions

    Evolve - question re: Android

Due to a long and complicated series of phone service mixups and misadventures over the past few months, I now have - for the time being anyways, a G1. How can I make this POS less of a POS?
Working...
