WICHITA — Ryan Bradley Dull of Wichita received a life prison sentence today for having sex with a 13-year-old girl when he was 19.

Sedgwick County District Judge Eric Yost imposed the 25-years-to-life sentence required under the Kansas statute known as Jessica's Law.

A jury in April convicted Dull, now 20, of statutory rape, aggravated criminal sodomy and aggravated indecent liberties with a child.

Yost ordered the sentences for all the crimes to run concurrently.

Jessica's Law was passed in 2006 to provide longer prison sentences for first-time offenders convicted of sex crimes against children under 14.

That's what I thought. I don't condone it in the least, but that is a severe penalty for statutory rape. Maybe 3-5 years, but 25 years plus is just insane. Do hard core non-consensual rapists even get that long?

I need much more information than the news article provides. Such as, "Did the girl lie about her age?" "Did the man claim the girl initiated sexual behavior?" "How well acquainted were the perp and victim?" "Was violence involved?"

The Wichita Eagle has always sucked at thoroughness and diligence.

If it was some random 13 year old girl, too harsh. If it was MY little 13 year old girl, I'd say he got off easy.

People do less time in prison for murder. Donte Stallworth of the Browns killed a pedestrian while driving drunk and only got 30 days in jail.
