Why is that a problem exactly?

Because we need more people to support our retirements. Fewer people means less money going into the pot to support us when old and then we have to go back to work. That's the reason.

America is in a unique position in that there are a LOT of people who want to emigrate here and solve this problem for us.

I do not think it's a problem at all but olds think it's a huge problem because the cash is going to run out before they die. People are living 25-30 years beyond retirement age now with consistency, the system was not set up for that and only a population boom like there was in the 60s-80s could sustain it. But the boomers have screwed over younger generations so thoroughly that they are not having or cannot have kids because they cannot afford it.

Because our economy is a giant pyramid scheme that requires constant "growth" at the bottom and an ever-increasing population.

It's a problem for Americans because we have always put economic viability above health and sustainability.

This. When you look at 20 year budget projections, they almost alway assume population growth.

Seems like a problem that will solve itself. Not enough money for the top of the pyramid, top of pyramid dies. Done. (I also wonder how much Covid-19 has helped the overall health of our retirement system(s) finances)

Reason #1371 why Social Security is a bullshit program and why people shouldn't trust the federal government with the money that they steal "for your retirement."

It's funny that the party that wants a clean, sustainable environment, also counts on a social security/medicare system that requires unsustainable and environmentally destructive population growth.

Yeah but that's not how it will work. All those "heartwarming" stories you see about kids using their college savings to pay for their mom's rent or using their allowance to cover fellow students' lunch debts (seriously, how the fuck is lunch debt a thing) will become "local woman, 78, sells off family heirlooms to pay for weekly groceries".

It never impacts the top of the pyramid, the rot will just start moving up until it hits the golden cap.

I thought this thread would be about Arrested Development.
