  • Home Audio Help!!!!

I am an Audiophile poser. I have buddies who are spending thousands on their audio systems and I know they turn their nose up at me, but might still be able to trick other buddies who aren't experts. I had a collection of vinyl albums from my youth and I have been buying newer stuff as well. My son also buys albums. I gave him my starter turntable (Audio-Technica AT-LP-60) and I bought the Audio-Technica AT-LP120 so I can upgrade it. I will soon upgrade the needle and cartridge, for example. I paired it with Edifier R1700BT Bluetooth Bookshelf Speakers (https://www.amazon.com/Edifier-R1700...dp/B016PATXSI/ ). I often play online streaming music from my computer to the speakers using the BT mode. The turntable has a built in pre-amp so I can listen and have this all on my home office desk (big desk). But, I want to expand into the family room. I have speaker stands I'll buy and I plan to get a subwoofer (e.g., https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0015A8Y5M -- BIC America F12 12-Inch 475-Watt Front Firing Powered Subwoofer). But, I am struggling with the receiver I should get. I need to plug in the turntable and I need to plug in the subwoofer. Ideally, I would also pass my television audio (e.g., maybe HDMI) through the system as well. Bluetooth and/or wifi would be nice. I've looked cheap and every option seems to not have phono or not have a dedicated subwoofer output (or is it input?). I will eventually add a few more speakers, perhaps. Maybe anyway. So, I suppose I need at least 5 channel speakers, but I have no clue. Thanks for any advice provided.

I wanted to spend under $300, but nearly all options are limited at this price point. My goal is to find something online during Black Friday. I joined AVS forums about 12 years ago and forgot. Thanks. ;-)

I just checked and I don't need phono in after all because my turntable outputs the red and white typical audio cables. I think that makes my search much easier. Good thing I am so savvy about this stuff.

Probably hard to go wrong with this one.

7 Channels is much more than I'll ever need (5 might even be much for me because I will never run cables around the room to get surround sound). Also, there is a newer model of that one, but the price looks good and I am not sure I'd use the features on the newer model. For my setup, it works, sure. I'll keep my eye on that and see what else emerges on Black Friday. Thanks.

I like the Denon app, but haven't checked out the Onkyo app . . . I am an app junky, so that will play into my decision. I need to be able to tweak treble and bass and all that jazz that an audiophile poser does.

I love my 20 yr old Denon, but I've heard less than good things about the reliability of modern Denon's.

That is reflected in the Amazon ratings of the 3 receivers I am eyeing. The Onkyo is 4 stars, the Yamaha is 4.5 and the Denon is 3.5. I will either go with the one of the following:

                https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01AT3G1Z0/ ($288)
                or
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07BNXXJKB/ ($259 -- but shows up as a Black Friday deal)

I grabbed a subwoofer on sale today.

The Yamaha went from $259 to $219, so I grabbed it.
