  • Why does this guy use an exorbitant amount of exclamation points in his emails?

    Examples, just today:

"Here the die-line for the slightly longer tube Jason…let me know if you have any questions

    Thanks!!"

    and:

"Should have the pricing on the pen tomorrow!!"

I wouldn't be surprised if you had said it was a girl!!!!!!!!!! Chicks seem to be most guilty of the over-use of exclamation points!!!!!!! I have girlfriends who end EVERY sentence in a text with an exclamation point!!!!!!!!!!

        DRIVES ME FUCKING CRAZY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Why does this guy use an exorbitant amount of exclamation points in his emails?

I feel ghey when I use any exclamation points outside of talking with my gf, and even then it's rare

me: "you're gonna ess my d tonight?!"

          her: yeah, sure

          me: "YES!!"

in all seriousness though, this day and age, before I email a woman, I think about adding a ! to the Thanks at the end...cause sometimes women read too far into it

Thanks seems to appear less friendly than Thanks!

Double exclamation marks seem to suggest a sense of hyper-excitement of the childish variety.

quite frankly, I think it looks clunky, but 100 times better than on other sites where you have to scroll the whole screen to read something because people have been quoting each other for like 15 different posts

My old boss used a ton of exclamation points. He was a very excitable guy, so it kind of fit his personality. A sample:

                        "New Project Teams,

One of the best assignments we get each year are the visits from each year’s class of potential new hires from the professional trainee program. I am looking forward to meeting all of you, and I want to thank XXXXX for adding twice as much fun for us with two teams visiting our company this year!!!

We have an interesting and fun agenda lined up for you during your visits. I am handing off the point person responsibility to RTHPineapple, who is our Field Engineer, and an alumni of the program you are in right now. RTHPineapple has lined up several interesting company employees for you to meet, and I challenge each of you to start building your relationships with the people you meet during your visit. These relationships that you start will be a nice building block as your careers develop!! Everyone that you will be meeting is looking forward to your questions, so fire away!!!!

OK…you are visiting Minnesota during our warmest time of the summer. I just looked at some weather data, and during the dates of your visits, it has never snowed in the last 100 years. But, it can still get chilly in the morning, so I advise you to bring along a light jacket. Part of your field trip has you visiting some sites north of the Twin Cities, and you could see some temps in the high 40’s or low 50’s for low temps, but our current weather will need to change for that to happen. Anything is possible up here, and we have seen frost in August more than once!!!

RTHPineapple has clued you in on all of our safety equipment requirements, so I won’t go there at this time.
We have some interesting people for you to meet. YYYYY, our safety coordinator, will start you all off with a safety meeting and orientation (tip: If you drink coffee, YYYYY makes the best coffee around!!!) ZZZZZ is a 44 year veteran with this company and you will get a chance to meet him while at Station 1! (Tip: Don’t eat the sauerkraut! But try the herring if offered).

AAAAAA is the Supervisor of Operations at Station 2. (Tip: Do eat the smoke salmon if offered!)
We are all fired up to make your visit as memorable and fun as possible, while still learning about our business and lifestyle in Minnesota and Wisconsin.

Have a safe trip! Looking forward to working with you over the next couple of weeks.

                        ~Boss"
