For all you Android-ers out there, anybody else rocking the Nexus S? I decided I wanted to give it a try, so I traded up from my Vibrant and so far I'm liking it. 2.3 is pretty awesome and the hardware itself is pretty great too. Everybody says that the plastic is/feels cheap on both the Vibrant and the Nexus S and I don't really get that as somebody who's had an iPhone in the past. Do they not remember when that was plastic? I think it's pretty solid, and the Nexus actually feels a little more weighty than the Vibrant even though they're so close. Gotta love stock Android, or at least the lack of the RFS filesystem that Samsung used on the Vibrant, not seeing that typical bit of lag here. Anyway, just figured I'd see if I'm the only one using this bad boy, and that I'd say that it is pretty awesome from my initial impressions

Does the GPS work well? I heard it had similar issues as the Galaxy S.
It isn't too bad, but I have seen some similar issues sometimes... of course with the roms I had gotten into on the Vibrant, the GPS was pretty darn solid at the most recent and was better than stock by far

Isn't it T-Mobile only?
You can buy it unlocked at BB, or on contract w/T-Mobile. Everybody says that it's only got the T-Mo 3G bands, and that's probably true but I've seen some people saying they were getting AT&T 3G on it so I don't know. The Vibrant actually uses a radio on which you can enable the AT&T frequency so it can get 3G, so hey if it's got a similar radio, who knows... most likely though it would just be Edge speed on AT&T

Re: ASIW I moved to the Nexus S
Speaking of phones, I finally changed in my Vibrant today.
The GPS has always been a bit wonky, finally got tired of it and worked a Mytouch 4g for 150 bucks from retention.
Only extended my contract 3 months + the money to get it. Vibrant is already sold on craigslist (in about 3 hours) for 350 (it was brand new in box as their last warranty replacement was brand new).
I love working carriers

What OS does the MyTouch 4g sport?
Android 2.2 with the espresso Sense overlay (not normal sense, lighter version of it)
It's really slick, and has a lot of nice little features baked in
It's an HTC device too, so dev work for it is always easy once you're perm-rooted

I had found that the Nero rom I had on my Vibrant had the GPS working really well actually, really improved some of the previous hardships it seemed like. How did you manage to swing the Mytouch like that?
I honestly had a much easier time flashing my Vibrant than I did my N1 when I had it, and apart from the lack of Cyanogen on the Vibrant, there were quite a few roms out there. They are really pretty good as well. I really like the Team Whiskey roms, and they are going crazy with new kernels as well... people hate on the hardware of the Vibrant, but boy that screen is awesome and I really never found it to be cheap feeling. It was super light, and yet it still had a good weight to it, which is weird but somehow that's how it was.

Ultimately, all of the roms for the Vibrant still have some issues
File System: Only some of the experimental (ULF) kernels have replaced the RFS entirely with EXT4 or 2...and it's highly unstable still.
No matter what ROM I use...my GPS just doesn't work.. hasn't on 3 phones. Some work, some don't. I still think half the issue's hardware. Samsung apparently has it listed as a known issue with T-Mobile that's unresolvable in some cases.
I love the vibrant's screen and such...but really when you use a MT4G, Nexus S, or something better it shows you how much that RFS file system's really holding back the Vibrant

Oh I know they aren't perfect, it's odd that you've had no good gps on any of your phones, mine was just fine when I moved to Nero but who knows I guess. It's not as good as the N1 was, and that probably is partially hardware I'm sure, and that's frustrating somewhat. The real problem is definitely that RFS filesystem, I agree... it's unbelievable how much lag there is in the stock roms given the hardware that thing is packing. The NS is lightyears beyond it in that regard. You would think that it'll be close enough that they can completely replace the filesystem with the NS version since they're so close. Hopefully that ends up happening.

There are new kernels that completely redo the file systems...but they're not completely stable
they're fast as hell tho

Yeah I know, like Voodoo and such... they're definitely doing work on that thing. I will say that the battery seems to be MUCH better than my Vibrant was, and better than the N1 even too... I'm still sitting at 50% right now, which is way better than I had gotten used to, heck it was still going without any charging at 1 am last night before I went to bed. Neither of the others would be able to touch that, and that's with fairly heavy use throughout the day. I like that very much
