Wireless Routers and X-Box

I need to replace my wireless router because it dies and my son wants an X-Box wireless adapter for Christmas. I have done some research and see that some of the better X-box adapters require certain types of routers. Unfortunately my technical knowledge in these matter is lacking to make an intelligent decision.

My son is not a high end gamer but we would like to use it for playing some online games and streaming Netflix.

Help!

you should do yourself a favor and get your son the new xbox...BUILT IN WIRELESS

so you're upgrading the game system for $299...BUT the wireless adapter is ~$100 so you're only really spending $199 on a brand new system, right?

You want to make sure whatever you get is Wireless-N (not just b and g) to best handle gaming and video streaming. The best bet would be to get one that can do all 3 so that if you have an older laptop computer, you'll still be able to connect to the Internet.

your ISP gives you a modem, right? they may be able to swap you for a wireless modem/gateway router for close to nothing. tell them you'll leave them to get verizon fios and see if they retain you with a freebie.

I'm an apple homer and think the Airport is the absolute best networking router out there. I even say this after I couldn't download porn to my laptop this morning because a chair was blocking the wireless signal.

I have TWC and I am not sure they offer this but I shall check. Is Verizon even an option in Johnson County?
