The fire on campus just shows you how information is distributed in social media. I saw the first tweet from a student 23 minutes before KU's emergency alert email went out. 14 minutes before the text message from KU public safety. I still don't get why some people are scared of Twitter. It's an amazing piece of information distribution.

Re: Twitter
That's the thing...I don't understand people that have facebook that are against twitter...twitter is MUCH less invasive
9 out of 10 people that don't have twitter respond with "I'm not vain enough to think that people need to know what I'm doing 24 hours a day"
I admit, back before I had twitter, I was the same way...but it's an excellent tool as well as means of communication...I've had it for about a year and a half...I only follow like 70 people, but this site's twitter account follows about 1,000 and has brought new members as well as been used to get the word out about articles, meltdowns, etc
My gf is in charge of social networking for her company...it was like pulling teeth to get her on board, and then the old guys at the company were even worse

Re: Twitter
With today's announcement that the King will be joining Twitter, I've decided to make the plunge.
Questions.
What's the easiest/best way to go about setting up an account?
Who are the Must-Tweets? I'm thinking, along with the King, Bill Self and the KU players. Maybe Baba-booey.

007 that is because we are old. You have to draw the line somewhere. Otherwise you are the "old guy using new technology" Just like it looks odd for an old dude to be using an IPad.
Twitter is my limit. Joe tried to help me the other day.
I gave up.

Funny how the only people I know with iPads are old dudes.

Re: Twitter
Comedians are usually the best to follow on Twitter. I follow Patton Oswalt and Steve Martin to name a couple. I follow Louis CK, but he only says something about once a month and it's usually not that good. I follow Men's Health for the tips they send out. I actually used to be against Twitter, but have found it really useful and entertaining.

Given that my dad recently bought an iPad and just told me yesterday that he uses it "constantly", this totally grosses me out.

Re: Twitter
Oh, and I am ready to get on the twitter bandwagon as well. I have been holding out for a long time despite my husband's insistence that I would really like it. However, I am now in charge of communication for a charity group I am involved with and I want to incorporate twitter into this. Thus I need to just embrace it and get it over with.
