Re: New Music Thread
I just found this great group out of Canada. There are only 3 of them but they put out this amazing sound. Some would say they are a little nerdy and "concepty", but I like them.
Here is a sample. It was from a small house show.

Which, if not all, Flaming Lips?
I've been listening to a lot of Yeah Yeah Yeah's and The Sounds lately, incase you care.

I recently caught a great cover of theirs: Flaming Lips - Knives Out I'm 50-50 on which version is better. I think the Radiohead version is more fluid, but I like the disjointed, plodding Flaming Lips version, as well.

Re: New Music Thread
I haven't listened to new music in a long time.
My daily listening consists of:
NPR on the way to work
Howard Stern while at work
Switch over to 1st Wave - the classic 80s alternative station
Then on the way home, turn on KK to hear what his latest meltdown is about.
On long trips it's usually 1st Wave because the boy is getting old enough that he might pick up some of the things said on Howard.

Not new bands, but I've been on a bit of a stoner rock kick lately, i.e. rocking the fuck out to bands like Monster Magnet - particularly their earlier, more "spacey" work - and Kyuss.
[/quote]
Ah, thank you of reminding me of Kyuss. Space Cadet, FTW.

I had never heard of Kyuss and am listening to them. Pretty good stuff. You are a bastard for not telling me about them sooner.

Well, I'm a bastard either way.
I dig their raw, garage-y wall of sound style. Welcome to Sky Valley is a good album, but IMO their best is Blues for the Red Sun. BTW, their guitarist was Josh Homme, who is now the frontman for Queens of the Stone Age, another stoner rock band I dig.
Also, check out Monster Magnet's earlier albums like Spine of God, Dopes to Infinity, and Superjudge. Very catchy stuff: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MuOuzBzNdvY
