Actually I read somewhere that every baby is "genetically programed" to have an crying sound that annoys his own parents even more than the average person. So Joe, there is something more annoying than the sound of a baby crying, that would be the sound of YOUR baby crying.
I suppose it all has to do with survival instincts and protection of your own genetic material.
But, despite the screaming, being a parent isn't all that bad. Sure, your life dramatically changes, you can't just go to the bar at the drop of a hat. When you go to a KU football game, you have to bring entire bathroom, feeding supplies, and a change of clothes with you. You end up eating Mac and Cheese or Hot Dogs at home and when you go out to eat your stuck with McDonalds, but it still isn't that bad. And you do get used to the screaming and crying.

Really? When we were at the hospital 2 weeks ago, my husband and I were highly annoyed by all the other newborn cries we could hear but kept commenting that our own baby's cries were "cute".
fwiw, I don't think that cry is so cute anymore when I hear it at 3am. But it's still probably better than some random baby.
My nephew just turned 2 and rarely cries, but he does this whine when he is getting annoyed by someone or wants something. It drives me up a wall. Luckily my brother doesn't tolerate it and gets on him for it.

Toddler cries ARE annoying. There is nothing worse than a whining toddler/preschooler. That's a whole different animal than a crying baby who doesn't have any other way to express himself.

Dealt with the first example this morning. No better way to start your day (or a heavy drinking habit).
