Mortgages & Real Estate Agents - Lawrence Edition

I'm starting the process of buying a new home in the next 6-12 months. I've banked with USAA for years and was wondering if anyone had feedback on their service. Obviously I would shop around, so other good groups to go through for a mortgage.

We currently live in Lawrence, so feedback on any real estate agents to work/not work with?

The place across the street is a rental. From fall 2007-summer 2009, there were 2-3 guys living in there. Some of the dumbest college kids I have ever met. Parents did everything for them. They were brilliant enough to start their porch couch on fire by accident (they were smokers) one night before a home football game. Place almost went up in flames before another neighbor called the fire department. They weren't allowed to come back the following year.
