I'm always interested to hear about people buying junkers....however, because I know we're all smart as hell, these will probably be stories about people we know....but we all probably know someone that has done it.
Personally, I've only been responsible for two cars so far in my life (one lease, one purchase) and both were good cars for me
That said, my dad always used to tell a story about my mom purchasing a ford fiesta (I believe) because she thought it was cute...I don't remember the exact specifics, but she didn't have it for more than a month before it turned into a turd
