  • Most painful procedure you've ever been through....

The root canal thread got me thinking, what's the most painful procedure/event you've endured

samandben will probably take the cake here...but the rest of us b!tches should get a chance to complain

I've been fairly lucky throughout life and haven't had any major surgery or anything...but I'd have to say that most likely the most painful thing that's ever happened to me was when I was 7 or 8 and my brother dared me to jump off a chair on to a trampoline and then try to dunk a basketball

Sadly, I took the dare, slammed my arm into the rim and then fell to the concrete...when I got up my hand was pretty much dangling....hurt like hell....was under local anesthesia when they set it...that was a long day

Second place would probably be a time that I was playing capture the flag...there was a drainage ditch udner the parking lot of the church we were playing at...someone removed one of the manhole covers and was using the ditch to get across the "playing field"...they didn't return the cover....the hole was next to my truck...I was going to drive someone across the parking lot when I was leaving so I was walking backwards in order to keep an eye out...stepped back with one foot...there was nothing there...cracked my head on the rim of the hole and fell about 10 to 15 feet...

I don't really remember driving home too much except that I was slowly losing vision in my left eye...had to go get several staples in my head and a tetanus shot

Like I said, mine weren't too terrible, but that's the worst I've had in my life...I'm sure you guys will have some excellent stories

    GO

Ingrown toe nail surgery. Cutting it out hurt like shit, not that I'm very tough to begin with. One time I thought I had to get my appendix taken out, turned out I was just hella constipated. That hurt too.

A couple of mine involve cutting/housing tobacco. I was cutting tobacco in our patch during my freshman year in college. I sharpen the bottom of the blade on my tobacco knife (for those that don't know they look more like a hatchet with a thin blade) as well as the cutting edge so if I "overswing" and the blade hangs I can pull it back through to finish the cut. We were cutting some really big, thick-stalked burley and I overswung and the blade hung. I yanked but it wouldnt budge so I yanked again REALLY hard. The blade came through and its momentum carried it into my left leg, burying the blade in the outside of my calf almost to the bone. Damn thing bled literally for days.

A few years earlier I was housing tobacco in a neighbor's barn. I went to take a step back on the tier pole and missed it completely, falling roughly 10 feet and landing flat on my ass. The fall crushed the corner of my bottom vertabrae. My back has given me mucho trouble since.

Ten years ago I was broadsided on my motorcycle, by a 4x4 Dodge Ram that ran a stop sign. Shattered my right ankle, and messed up my knee pretty bad. I spent 6.5 hours in surgery. Plate, six pins, and 2 screws in my right ankle, had my PCL reattached, and some torn muscles in my knee cleaned up. Had my leg in a brace in a straight position for 2 months, then 6 more months of P.T. Essentially had to retrain myself how to walk. Now, I can predict weather with my cybernetic ankle, FTW!

Maybe it's because it's still fresh in my mind, but I would put last Thursday at the top of my list. Within a span of 30 minutes, my epidural wore off, I went from 5cm dilated to 10cm (that's fast...it usually takes hours), and I had to birth a 8lb9oz baby with virtually no drugs left in me. It kind of hurt. But at least it was fast.

I won't complain because my previous two were easy. Before last week I would have said the worst pain I had ever been in was the last few miles of a marathon.

Had to have my esophagus rapped due to a hiatal hernia so after surgery I couldn't really swallow solid food for over a month. Because it was so constricted it took me hours just to eat a little bit of pasta.

It didn't hurt the most, but doing the half-lytely prep for a colonoscopy was really, really, really horrific.

It's like a gallon of lime smelling, warmed over mucus/puke, that no matter what you do, makes you want to vomit with every drink. The explosive diarrhea it gives you is nothing in comparison to drinking that stuff.

Nothing too bad. I had four teeth pulled when I was a kid to make room for braces. That hurt somewhat.
I had an hernia and subsequent surgery to repair it. That hurt pretty bad for a while.

FESS (Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery) + turbinectomy + septoplasty all at once. Not necessarily a painful procedure, but the weeks of discomfort sucked ass. Sleeping/breathing at night was especially difficult.

The worst part of the whole process when I had a follow-up visit with my ENT two weeks following surgery. He squirted lidocaine up my nose and then yanked the scabs off of both turbinates with a pair of forceps; it felt like he was pulling my brain out through my nose and my entire face and throat were numb for two hours afterward.

I know someone that just gave birth with no epidural. She didn't realize she was in labor until well into the process so by the time she got to the hospital she was almost fully dilated and they had no time for an epidural so she gave birth to a 9lb baby boy with no pain meds. It was her first, but I'm not sure if that makes it worse or not.

Herniated disc in my back when I was 23 years old. I couldn't do much for a few months.

I had my knee scoped and a lateral release last December. That hurt. But the lortabs more than made up for it... for a little while anyway.
