  • Phone Upgrade

Here in the next few weeks, I'll be up for a phone upgrade with T-Mobile.

I know they don't have the best phones, but I've never had a problem with the service or customer service.

I've had the G1 for the last 2 years, and while it's nice, it's because very out of date as far as smart phones go. I'd like to get another Android phone because they're easy (at least the g1 was) to root.

    Any suggestions? (Jason, Evolve?)

Great phone. Just picked up the AT&T version, the Captivate, this weekend.

What's the battery life on the Vibrant? Will I need to be recharging it constantly?

Well, technically, yes...but there are apps that can help with that

Evolvehawk introduced me to juice defender...has worked wonders on my phone...I used to leave work with about 25% left...now I'm leaving with ~60%

I charge mine every night though, regardless....probably not GREAT for the battery, but I make sure to do a full cycle a few times a week

I've got JuiceDefender for my G1 and it's worked wonders.

Also, how does the on-screen keyboard respond? I'm used to the physical keyboard the G1 has. I know Swype comes default which I feel would take some getting used to, but could be much more faster when I get the hang of it.

              Re: Phone Upgrade

Swype takes a bit to get the hang of, but it's good after awhile...personally, I don't use it anymore, just because it's a pain (IMO) to do punctuation and capitals, etc

I use the haptic feedback on the keyboard and it's really responsive...I had the iPhone for three years and I like this keyboard even more than that one

may take some time if it's your first touch keyboard, but you'll get the hang of it in a couple days

Personally....I'd wait until next month/ end of this month and get the G2

Especially if you're nervous about the virtual keyboard

The Vibrant's a great phone though.....I should know, I own it...probably best hardware phone on the market today but it's got some real quirks that are still unresolved (although Sammy's promised Froyo/GPS fix in September..so getting close)

                  ^^^

I was texting with my gf last night and all of the sudden when I hit send, the profile changed to my dad and it sent the message to him

He responded to me in the same thread that she was texting me in...very weird

just glad it wasn't something inappropriate for pops....nam sayin'
